Ed Burns, Grade 6

"I'm excited to join the SPS community because I believe in Catholic education. I attended Catholic schools through 12th grade and appreciate the balance of academic and spiritual growth that occurs in Catholic schools. I am excited to work with the SPS families and to grow as a member of this community."

Education - Bachelors of Science in Journalism from University of Illinois-Urbana

Masters in Elementary Education from University of Illinois-Chicago

My Path to SPS - I started my teaching career volunteering in adult ESL classes and kindergarten Sunday School. I took both of these experiences to graduate school at the University of Illinois-Chicago and got my masters degree in elementary education. I was a preschool aide and a seventh grade teacher in Chicago Public Schools before spending the last five years teaching middle school students at St. Ailbe Catholic School. While at St. Ailbe I taught middle school math, science and religion. I was the staff mentor of the robotics team (two years underwater, two years FIRST Tech Challenge).

Hobbies Outside of School - At home I enjoy reading and playing video games. I mostly read nonfiction but am always looking for good fiction recommendations.
