Focusing on Reading, Writing, and Math Strategies
Grades 1-8

The Program

In the 2005-06 academic year, we kicked off our established after school literacy program on Tuesday, October 25. Our after school program is designed to help eligible students in grades one to eight become successful literacy learners. The St. Peter School After School Literacy Program, funded by Title I, focuses upon reading, writing, and mathematics strategies that supports the participants’ current curricula. All activities are designed to address each participant’s strengths as well as areas of need.

Program Goals

• To provide students with multi-model, strategic reading, writing, and math instruction that supports their current curricula and focuses on their strengths and needs as well as interests.

• To provide students with a creative literate environment in which risk taking is both supported and encouraged.

• To develop a high level of literacy proficiency.

• To provide literacy information to families in order to develop a home school connection.

• To foster a love of reading, writing, and math in all students and their families so that they will continue to explore, to discover, and to learn as independent and confident readers, writers, and mathematicians for a lifetime.
