The Hoff Technology Center is a computer-equipped room where St. Peter School students learn to use computers and software. Classroom teachers also use the Technology Center to enhance all areas of the curriculum. The Center was dedicated February 28, 1999 in honor of George and Mary Hoff, lifetime supporters of Catholic education. Two of the Hoff grandchildren are alumni of St. Peter School.
The Center is equipped with fifteen Windows-based computers (PCs). Students in grades K1 through Grade 8 participate in the program. One half of the students of a given class convene in the center once per week. The classes are divided in half so that each student may work at his/her own computer.
Computer literacy is implemented into our curriculum and many skills are learned by using programs such as: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and KidPix. Students are encouraged to explore their favorite educational programs during "free choice." In addition to helping students develop computer literacy, the technology center is a research resource for students.
Through the use of the Hoff Technology Center, the students feel a sense of accomplishment and gain mastery of computer technology. It is most rewarding for teachers to observe the progress made by the students from week to week. We thank the family of George and Mary Catherine Hoff for the wonderful learning environment they have made possible.
